Gameboy / Guitar / Drums / Chicago

March 19, 2006 By Glenn Turner

It's been a while since Chicago has had a bit of chip-fun in the live music department, but that drought is finally over: On March 26th, OMAC & OMAC-participant (and ex-Chicagoan) Mark DeNardo will come down like thunder at the The Empty Bottle. Both incorporate 8-bit and Game Boy sounds into their acts, using it to accentuate their style as opposed to making it the focus of their sound. OMAC comes off more hip-hop/punk oriented, whereas DeNardo's solo work is more 'folkie'. I've been trying to see DeNardo live for a while now, and thanks to a combination of 1) finding out about his shows too late and 2) some shows I've attended ran supremely late, forcing me to head home before he made it to the stage, so I have yet to see him play. However, the tracks he's embedded in his site definitely leaves me intrigued (if you'd like a suggestion, Gears is a good start). As for OMAC, well, check out >< for a good time.

If you're around Chicago, I hope to see ya there! Otherwise, I believe they're hitting several other cities (OMAC I know is playing their first live show on Monday in NYC - and with TV Pow!) so keep your eyes peeled.
