Is the year over yet? And how do you deal with consoles & living areas?

November 11, 2005 By Glenn Turner

If so, I'd like to exit the ride now please, thank you.

It's been a long week, but after a grueling and sadistic move UD & myself are finally set up, back online and we will never, ever move again.

Unfortunately I've been too preoccupied with balancing bank accounts, dealing with movers, accidently dropping heavy items on myself and other sufferance to actually play anything. My Trace Memory review has been collecting dust, Shadow of the Colossus sits patiently in my bag just waiting for me to clamber over two more colossi, and Soul Calibur 3 wonders why I haven't called. To add insult to injury, Advance Wars arrived in the mail the day of the big ol' move. Thanks Gamefly.

But what I have been pre-occupied with has been setting up the a/v equipment. See, now I have a fancy enclosed office area instead of working in the living room! Of course this also means having to find a balance of what consoles go in the living area, and which stay in my office. What stereo system should I use, and what goes in the common area?

I ultimately decided that current generation systems stay in the living room, whereas anything older stays in the office (although with our multiple Dreamcasts, there can be one in each room!). That includes the actual games, partially because the media racks we have out there can't accomodate the wealth of games we've found garage saling. In fact, the bulk of our collection has unfortunately languished in the closet within a myriad of boxes.

It was not pretty, but hopefully this new arrangement shall remedy that.

So how do you deal with your consoles and living spaces? Are they relegated to a crawl space under the stairs that necessitates a space heater whenever you want to squeeze in a few hours of Super Monkey Ball? Or do you just shove all of your innumerable consoles into one shelf and let a higher being sort it out?

In the old days, I resorted to the last option. However, since I sold my consoles, all I have is a PC.

And it's still horribly tangled beyond relief.

I just moved myself and find myself in the same situation with much of my collection sitting in the closet. I did pull out the recently purchased Final Fantasy 5/6 for PSX, only to have the card reader on the system die in the first few days. So basically I've been rewatching my DVD collection waiting for the internet to be hooked up. I still have my infamous entertainment center so I'll be slowly restocking that, though the layout may change as I may move the TV on TOP so that I can see the TV from my seat at my computer. Yes I'm a simple creature.

Living in a new town should yeild interesting finds once I get back on the garage saling wagon as well. GWN DrunkSaling lives on!
